Floodwaters are receding slowly in Mymensingh’s Haluaghat, Dobaura, and Fulbaria upazilas. As of Wednesday morning, no new areas have been submerged, but in some regions, the flood situation remains unchanged.
Severe shortages of clean water and food have emerged in the flood-affected areas, raising concerns about waterborne diseases. Alongside the government, the military, RAB, and volunteers continue relief efforts in all three upazilas.
Fulbaria
Due to continuous rain and flooding, water levels started rising in Fulbaria upazila from last Sunday. Floodwater entered the area through the Malijhee and Kangsha rivers, affecting several regions. Today, water levels have started to recede in Chan Dhara, Singeshwar, and Fulbaria Sadar, but the situation remains stable in Balia and Rupshi unions. At least 24,000 people in 35 villages remain trapped by floodwaters.
Abdul Hakim (65), a resident of Bhaitkandi, mentioned, “We haven’t seen water like this before. The water level has started to drop since yesterday, but this flood has caused damage to everyone.”
Shamsher Ali (70), a farmer from Pogaputia village, said, “The water is receding slowly. I’ve only seen a flood like this in my youth. I planted rice on 14 katha land, and now it's all under water. I’m worried about how we’ll survive.”
Fulbaria Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) A.B.M. Ariful Islam stated that a control room has been set up for relief efforts, and flood-affected people are contacting them for assistance.
Haluaghat
Due to heavy rainfall and rising waters of the Boraghat River, one municipality and 12 unions in Haluaghat have been flooded. Since last Friday, 6,000 families have been waterlogged. The flood situation has worsened in Naraile, Bildora, and Shakua unions, while conditions have slightly improved in nine unions. There is a severe shortage of food and clean water among those trapped by the flood.
The army has launched a medical campaign this morning at BKE High School in Naraile Union.
According to Haluaghat UNO Md. Ershadul Ahmed, the flood situation in three unions has worsened, but conditions in nine unions have slightly improved.
Dobaura
After heavy rainfall and the breaking of the Netai river embankment last Friday afternoon, Dobaura upazila was flooded. Water levels began to decrease in South Maizpara, Gamaritla, and Ghoshgaon unions from Sunday afternoon. Though water levels have receded since Monday night in Porakandulia union, the situation remains unchanged in Goaitala and Dobaura Sadar, where 58,000 people are still trapped by floodwaters. Severe shortages of clean water and food persist across the area.
Dobaura UNO Nishat Sharmin confirmed that the shortage of clean water in the flooded areas is severe and may worsen in the post-flood period. Both government and private relief efforts are ongoing.
