North Korea Appoints No Kwang Chol as New Defense Minister
North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has appointed No Kwang Chol as the country's new Defense Minister, according to the state-run news agency, KCNA, which released the information today, Wednesday.
It is believed that the new Defense Minister will strengthen Pyongyang's stance against South Korea. KCNA reported that the announcement was made during a crucial meeting where No was named as the successor to Kang Sun Nam. However, no further details were provided regarding the change.
No Kwang Chol previously accompanied Kim Jong-un during his meetings with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore in 2018 and Vietnam in 2019.
There were concerns that North Korea might revoke the landmark inter-Korean agreement signed in 1991 during a meeting held this week. Additionally, Kim Jong-un was expected to officially label South Korea as a "hostile state." However, no such declaration was made during the meeting held yesterday, Tuesday.
